FAQ

Psychotherapy, often called “therapy” or “counseling,” is the relationship between a client and trained therapist, held in a confidential space where you can explore challenges, thoughts, emotions, and patterns impacting your life. Together, you explore what’s going on and work on ways to feel better and grow. Therapists use different tools such as dialogue, art, journaling, role-playing, or movement, to help you gain insight, learn coping skills, and make meaningful changes. Therapy can be provided in an individual, couple, family, or group setting.

It’s normal to feel a bit nervous or unsure during your first therapy session. This session serves as an initial assessment, where your therapist will ask about your background, current challenges, and what you’re hoping to achieve through therapy. You’ll also review how therapy works, including office policies, privacy, and confidentiality. Your therapist will explain things like boundaries, the fee structure, social media policy, and cancellation guidelines. Most importantly, this first meeting is a chance for you to get a feel for the therapist and decide if you’re comfortable moving forward together.

Each session usually lasts approximately 50 minutes. Since each client has different needs and goals for counseling, therapy is personalized, and the process will therefore look different for everyone. Our clinicians can tailor their approach and session frequency to support your growth and meet your individual needs.

Yes. Your privacy is protected by law, and what you share in therapy stays between you and your therapist, with a few exceptions (such as safety concerns or legal requirements, which your therapist will review with you in your first session).

It’s common for clients to feel uncertain about where to begin. Your therapist will provide guidance throughout the sessions, helping you explore the issues that feel most immediate or relevant to you. You are not expected to have all the answers upfront, as therapy is a collaborative process designed to support your journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
